The Occupational Therapy program at Jefferson Regional Medical Center
can assess, enhance, and optimize a patient's ability to perform
functional, everyday activities. Our goal is to help patients achieve
independence with self-care tasks of daily living, such as dressing,
bathing, homemaking, and getting in and out of bed, a car, or a
tub. In addition, the program can help patients recover from
work-related injuries.
A physician's referral is required prior to treatment.

Assessment
The Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a distinctive program of
our department. This state-of-the-art, computerized assessment system
can be used to assess strength and coordination giving our therapists
a clear diagnosis of a person's ability. This service is provided for
inpatient and outpatient adults, including seniors.
In addition to offering FCE to physical therapy patients, we work with
Jefferson Regional Medical Center's Business Plus Healthcare
program. Employers can turn to us for pre-employment FCE for safe
placement at the workplace and for post-injury FCE to determine when
an employee can return to work and in what role.

Rehabilitation
Occupational Therapy programs are commonly prescribed for patients
recovering from a stroke. Our Outpatient Stroke Rehabilitation program
helps patients recover skills for daily living. The program includes
strengthening and coordination training of the affected arm. In
addition, we can provide recommendations for durable medical equipment
that will enhance patient safety at home.
In addition to the Outpatient Stroke Rehabilitation program, we can
provide outpatient services for patients recovering from work and auto
accidents or other injuries to the nerves, spinal cord, bones, or
joints.
Our rehabilitation programs can start during recovery at Jefferson
Regional Medical Center. Our staff provides services at the Jefferson
Regional Medical Center Inpatient
Rehabilitation Unit for patients receiving treatment from our
departments of orthopedic surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, and
cardiac care.
