percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Outpatient Treatment
Most patients return to their usual activities within a few months
after a heart attack or surgery. Our outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation
programs monitors patients and helps to improve the recovery while
reducing the risk of future heart problems. This individualized
program brings together physicians, health educators, nurses, clinical
exercise physiologists, physical therapists, social workers,
dieticians, and psychologists all working to develop a patient
recover plan on signs and symptoms of heart disease and on healthy
lifestyle habits.
Our Cardiac Rehabilitation programs can begin in the hospital
following a heart attack, angioplasty, heart surgery, or a cardiac
condition that requires close monitoring. We help patients begin
low-level activity and focus on wellness education.
After discharge from the hospital, we focus the patient's
individualized rehabilitation program on exercise prescriptions and
the reduction of disease risk factors. The program includes medically
supervised and monitored exercise. We also offer programs and
individual counseling to help patients stop smoking, lose weight,
lower high blood pressure and cholesterol, and reduce emotional
stress.
A division of The Heart Institute, the Cardiopulmonary Wellness Center
offers a number of programs encompassing wellness and
prevention of heart and lung diseases. They include the Dean
Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease, Eat Well for Life, HOPE
Osteoporosis Prevention Program, Discover Relaxation Within,
Personal Nutrition Counseling, and Clean the Air tobacco
cessation education.
