Medical Center Salutes its Team of Volunteers at Annual Service Awards Luncheon

356 Teens and Adults Honored for their Commitment and Dedication to Serving Jefferson Regional in Various Volunteer Positions

Jefferson Hills, PA - April 21, 2011

Jefferson Regional Volunteer Services welcomed 118 new volunteers to its ranks in 2010, bringing the total number to 356 teens and adults.

Many of the volunteers – who logged an impressive cumulative 50,000 hours of service last year – were honored at a Volunteer Recognition and Service Awards luncheon April 13 at Georgetown Centre, Pleasant Hills.

Jefferson Regional CEO John Dempster expressed his appreciation on behalf of the hospital and greeted volunteers as they arrived. Keynote speaker and board member John Echement told the volunteers that their involvement “means so much to the level of service we give to the hospital. You can’t know how important you are to us.” Medical Center President Thomas Timcho echoed his sentiments, thanking volunteers for their commitment and dedication.

Also participating in the program were Phyllis Boykin, director, and Heidi Gregori, specialist, Customer and Volunteer Services, and the Rev. Paul Edwards, team leader, Spiritual Care.

Gloria Ninness, who volunteers in the Nursing Staff and Volunteer Services offices, received the President’s Lifetime Service Award for her 4,000-plus volunteer hours. Rebecca Farabaugh and Margaret Lype, Guest Shoppe volunteers, were honored for their 11,000 and 9,000 hours of volunteer service, respectively.

Among those receiving awards for milestones in Years of Service were:

• 30 years – Irene O’Keefe
• 25 years – Alice Rosemer, Evelyn Williamson and Ray Wolf
• 15 years – Marie Edwards, Dorothy LaFrankie and Betty Machin
• 10 years – Margaret Castle, Jean Dachille, Marlene Hayes, Joan Komer, Elizabeth Laube, Irene Mills, Lewis Pollock, Lois Razumic, Jan Shatting, Dolores Tegnelia
• 5 years – Walter Anderson, Roberta Budd, Barbara Burtner, Edith DeSue, Andrea Donohoe, Thomas Huston, Mary Jernstrom, Michael Meharra, Mary Sage, Jim Sage, Alice Toth
