Nurses at Jefferson Regional Medical Center have opportunities to take part in special programs that guide and recognize the contribution of nurses in the delivery of patient care. Care Delivery Partnership ProgramThe Care Delivery Partnership Program (CDPP) is unique to Jefferson Regional Medical Center. The program's goal is to provide a forum for nursing staff to set forth goals of continuous improvement in the patient care delivery process.At Jefferson Regional Medical Center, nurses have a voice in issues that affect care and the nursing process. Cameo of CaringJefferson Regional Medical Center is proud to participate in the Cameo of Caring event, sponsored by University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. This distinguished honor is awarded to an outstanding nurse who demonstrates excellence in nursing care, as selected by his/her peers.
Ruth Zalonis, of Scottdale, Westmoreland County, has been selected by her peers to represent Jefferson Regional at the 9th annual 2007 Cameos of Caring celebration sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. The Cameos Award honors outstanding nurses for their dedication to quality patient care.Zalonis has worked at Jefferson as an acute care and charge nurse since 1992, and she is chemotherapy and oncology-certified. From 1988 to 1992, she was a staff nurse with the medical center’s medical-surgical unit. Before joining the nursing team at Jefferson Regional, she was an LPN-charge nurse at Somerset County Home for the Aged (now Maple Manor). She graduated cum laude from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. She studied nursing at Somerset Area Practical Nursing School, Westmoreland County Community College, Penn State Fayette and Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as valedictorian. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Carlow University, graduating summa cum laude. Louise Urban, vice president, Patient Care Services, said, “We are very excited that Ruth will be representing Jefferson Regional Medical Center as the 2007 Cameo of Caring. Ruth is truly an advocate for her patients and the nursing profession. Her expert clinical skill and compassionate approach to care exemplifies the true art and science of nursing. The purpose of the Ladder is to reward and recognize our registered nurses by providing a framework for advancement of nurses that choose to remain a bedside clinician. It is designed to enhance quality patient care as well as promote recruitment and retention of exceptional nursing staff.The framework revolves around professional development and contributions to the nursing practice at the unit level, the organizational level and to the nursing profession at large. Advancement is based on application of the nursing process, proficiency with clinical skills, educational development, leadership and community outreach. The Division of Nursing is focused on empowering nurses, enhancing their careers and promoting excellence in practice.
