Press Ganey Associates, Inc., randomly surveys patients after discharge
and reports quarterly findings for hospitals of similar size. The June 2004 report indicates
patients rate the orthopedic specialty first overall, compared to its peers.

Jefferson Regional Primary Care Physicians Provide Options for Gynecologic Care
Incorporating routine gynecologic care into an annual physical checkup
with your primary care physician (PCP) makes good sense for many reasons. PCP’s can provide one stop
preventative services that offer time and money conveniences in the often very busy
lives of women.

Jefferson Regional Tops Quality Report for Nation’s Hospitals
On July 27, The Commonwealth Fund, a renowned organization that supports
independent research on health issues, published the results of a national study
of nearly 3,000 hospitals. The report cites Jefferson Regional Medical Center as
one of the top community hospitals in the country for the quality of patient care.

Programs for Cancer Patients
Several new and free programs are
slated to specifically address the unique needs of persons with cancer. These new community programs
represent a collaborative effort between Jefferson Regional Medical Center and the UPMC Cancer Center
located in the South Hills Medical Building.

Jefferson Regional VP’s 30 Years of Service Began in the Homestead Hospital Laboratory
Perhaps the reason Janet Cipullo and Jefferson Regional Medical Center fit
together so well is that they both refuse to rest on their laurels. Cipullo and Jefferson Regional
have grown together and emerged as leading health care resources in the region.

JRMC Safe Haven for Newborns
The Jefferson Regional Emergency Department is proud to announce the implementation
of Safe Haven in response to the Pennsylvania Commonwealth’s passage of the Newborn Protection
Act. The purpose of Safe Haven is to provide an option for newborns that might otherwise
be abandoned.

JRMC Uses Latest Advancement to Treat Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
The Silverhawk Catheter is changing the way cardiologists treat
Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), allowing for markedly improved patient outcomes. Jefferson Regional is one of
the few community hospitals that provide this service.

Patient Care VP has Deep-Rooted Commitment to Caring for Area Residents
Mary Ann Farmerie is responsible for the coordination and direction of nursing
for the inpatient medical, surgical and behavioral health unit, along with the staff development and
education and infection control departments. She also collaborates with the senior management team
to formulate strategic plans.

Aquatic Therapy is Ideal for People
Who Have Pain While Exercising
The Jefferson Regional Aquatic Physical Therapy program offers unique rehabilitation benefits
in a state-ofthe-art facility located near Jefferson Regional Medical Center. treatment for
conditions such as arthritis or fibromyalgia. Injuries to the neck, shoulder, low back, knee
or ankle respond well to aquatic therapy.

JRMC is First Area Hospital Offering Computer Assisted
Navigation for Knee Replacements
Jefferson Regional has installed a Stryker surgical navigation system for total knee
replacement surgery. Its ability to align new joints specific to each patient’s anatomy will improve
knee joint stability and likely will lengthen the life of implants. Jefferson Regional is the first area hospital
to install the equipment, the most advanced system of its kind available.

MRI Unit Added to Hospital Building
Jefferson Regional patients will enjoy improved convenience for MRI scans with the
addition of a conventional, shortbore MRI unit.

Two Local Residents Promoted to Key Leadership Roles at JRMC
Pleasant Hills native Robert W.Horn has been promoted to Executive
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Jefferson Regional. Bethel Park resident Robert
A.Frank has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief FinancialOfficer.

Jefferson Regional Nurse is a Finalist for National Patient Care Award
In recognition of her hard work and dedication, Jefferson Regional Nurse Pat Gamble
has been named a finalist of “Local Hero: Profiles in Nursing Care,” a program that celebrates
nurses for excellence in patient care.

First Fully Digital Pacemaker in the Pittsburgh Area Implanted at Jefferson Regional
The popular WTAE-TV News Program, Healthcast, featured an exciting story
last month about a fully digital pacemaker implanted into a patient at an Ohio hospital. In fact,
last October, the same pacemaker had been successfully implanted, right here at Jefferson Regional
Medical Center’s Heart Institute.

Jefferson Regional’s Outpatient Physical Therapy provides three convenient South Hills
locations: The facility at Jefferson Hospital, the Sports Medicine Center on Coal Valley Road,
and the Highmark Building on Lebanon Church Road.
