At Jefferson Regional Medical Center, we offer a program designed to help you reduce this risk − Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease. The Ornish Program is an intensive lifestyle-modification program to help individuals manage their risk for heart disease with diet, exercise, stress management and group support; within Allegheny County, the Dean Ornish Program is offered exclusively at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
The Dean Ornish Program is designed for those with risk factors for heart disease such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, as well as those individuals already diagnosed with heart and vascular diseases. The program provides comprehensive training from a professional staff of registered nurses, exercise physiologists, registered dieticians, stress management specialists and a group support facilitator, who support each participant individually to meet their goals.
The Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease has been shown to reduce the amount of plaque in coronary arteries, and significantly reduce blood sugars, cholesterol and blood pressure, with additional benefits such as increased strength, endurance, and a marked improvement in overall well-being.
